I made a big mistake tonight

News:

I got a call from my daughter to come and pick her up from her friends house.
I got into the truck and started it up and backed out of the drive way, as my headlights shone on the driveway . They lit up a tragedy I had ran over one of our kittens!! The smallest, most gentle of them all, the sweetest one. My secret favorite. I rushed out of the truck and picked him up and held him as he died. I held him in my arm the whole time crying as I went to pick up V. When she came to the truck she saw me crying and asked what was wrong and I told her. I killed him, I ran him over, it was an accident, but that doesn't make it any easier I hurt so bad right now, I was supposed to protect him and I hurt him.

V held him on the way home, then we took him and buried him in the back, it was dark and hard to see but I didn't want to wait. I didn't want any thing more to happen to him, I had to do my best for him, even though I had failed him by taking his life.

I sit here tears streaming down my face wishing I had just taken 2 secs to look under the truck before getting in.

It was a horrible, tragic accident, but please don't be so hard on yourself. It could have (and has) happened to anyone.

My mother did the exact same thing with one of my grandmothers kitties

It still tears her up - I hope a lot of people learn from this that they need to check for furries before pulling out - hopefully, you have saved many more by posting this

tears are running down my cheeks as i read this
you are so beautiful and you love so dearly and you are the one place cats would love to be becuase no matter how long they are with you they are loved and that is what matters
as said by others it was an accident
